The Municipal Corporation is testing the Insta Road Patcher technology to efficiently and effectively repair potholes on city roads. A demonstration took place on Monday at noon, showcasing the machine’s capabilities on the main road between Papachi Tikti and Pan Lane. This technology employs GIPSAT bitumen, which is designed to enhance the durability of road repairs.

KMC commissioner Dr Rajendra Bharud said, “There are about 1100km of roads in Kolhapur city. Kolhapur: The Kolhapur municipal corporation is piloting the modern ‘Insta Road Patcher’ technology to fill potholes on city roads quickly and durably. The ‘Insta Road Patcher’ tech employs pressure-sensitive material, enabling potholes to be filled within minutes, eliminating the need for heavy machinery such as trucks, dumpers, or large road rollers, and allows road repair work to be carried out with minimal manpower. KMC Commissioner, Dr Rajendra Bharud, MLA Rajesh Kshirsagar, who is the head of state planning commission, and Vishal Shirale, the chairperson of the standing committee, visited the site to inspect the demonstration. This technology utilises a ready-made mixture of bitumen, crushed stone (aggregate), and special chemicals, which does not require heating, and is suitable for use across all seasons and weather conditions. There is no need to wait for the surface to cool down, since the road can be opened to traffic immediately after the repair. Patching a single pothole takes approximately ten minutes. As the repairs made using this technology are capable of lasting at least two years, it can help reduce the costs associated with frequent road repairs, proving useful for small roads and urgent pothole repairs. Filling potholes using traditional methods requires significant manpower, time, and machinery, with the problem of potholes reappearing shortly after repair. Against this backdrop, the IRP-GIPSAT technology could serve as a faster, and more efficient alternative for road repair work. Of these, more than 200km are filled every year by the municipal corporation. The concerned company has taken a guarantee of two years for their potholes and if potholes reoccur, then they themselves will repair the road. Download the TOI App.
