Tribhuvan Singh, a BJP activist and alleged RTI activist, was arrested for extortion in Navi Mumbai
NAVI MUMBAI: A 47-year-old BJP activist, who claims to be an RTI activist, and is a resident of Digha, was arrested by Rabale police on Tuesday for allegedly extorting Rs 1.35 lakh from a developer through cash and online transactions since May 2026. An FIR was registered on Tuesday on a complaint by developer Jitendra Pratap Singh (52), a resident of Ishwar Nagar, Digha. Previously, he was arrested in March 2025 for demanding Rs 10 lakh extortion from a builder Rushabh Gupta (29) from Gothivli, Ghansoli node and accepted Rs one lakh installment on his friend’s account and kept demanding remaining amount. In that case, the accused Singh had complained to Cidco in Dec 2024 claiming illegal construction in Gothivali by the complainant builder Gupta and posted his construction site images on social media. SI Sawant further informed, “In 2025, Singh was served with a notice of externment from Navi Mumbai for one year. From 2023 till 2026, there are eight criminal cases registered against the accused Singh, including three cases at Rabale MIDC police station and one each at Rabale, Kalwa and Naupada police stations.
Police said he allegedly threatened to lodge complaints with NMMC, CIDCO and MIDC authorities claiming illegal construction on the developer’s Airoli and Digha plots and seeking their demolition. The arrested accused has been identified as Tribhuvan Singh. Based on the complainant’s allegations, Rabale police invoked BNS provisions relating to extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt, criminal intimidation and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace. This is the second time that, we have arrested the accused Singh. But, he sought reduction in externment period for six months and got approval from zonal DCP. After returning from externment period, he again allegedly indulged in criminal activities. “
On Wed, he was produced before the Belapur JMFC court that remanded him to police custody for six days. Balkrushna Sawant, senior inspector of Rabale, said, “The accused Tribhuvan Singh was arrested from Mumbra area on Tuesday late evening.
