Two absconding accused in another Samruddhi robbery arrested

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Police have arrested two absconding accused in the Aug 26 robbery and assault case on the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi expressway in Vaijapur taluka, taking the total number of arrests in two separate expressway robbery cases to seven within 24 hours. The accused, identified as Umesh Gaikwad (27) and Dnyaneshwar Jadhav (34), were wanted for allegedly robbing and assaulting a driver near Hads Pimpalgaon on the expressway. The two were produced before a court, which remanded them in police custody till Sept 7.

Police said the duo are habitual offenders wanted in multiple cases across districts and had been constantly changing locations to evade arrest. With the help of local farmers, our team members disguised themselves as farm workers to avoid suspicion and cordoned off the area before taking both men into custody,” Rajput said. Another accused in the case had already been arrested by Vaijapur police. “The accused were hiding in dense sugar cane fields. With the latest arrests, seven accused have been nabbed in two separate robbery cases on the high-speed corridor within a span of a day.

On Wednesday, police had arrested five accused from Delhi, Nashik, Beed and Solapur in another dacoity case on the Samruddhi expressway.
