Under the new arrangement, the assistant commissioners can approve revenue and capital expenditure of up to Rs 10 lakh. They can also sanction buying of machinery and other materials costing up to Rs 50,000 per item. Kolhapur : Civic chief Rajendra Bharud has delegated administrative and financial powers to the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation’s (KMC) assistant commissioners overseeing the corporation’s divisional offices. The move aims to decentralise administration and speed up civic works across the city.
“Five assistant commissioners have been appointed to oversee the divisional offices and related responsibilities,” Bharud said. The move is expected to enable divisional offices to address civic needs of the residents more quickly, without sending every matter to the corporation’s headquarters for approval. Their responsibilities include approving work estimates, granting technical approval, preparing draft tender documents and notices, supervising works, certifying measurement books, preparing bills and issuing work completion certificates. However, proposals to be placed before the municipal corporation or its standing committee will continue to require the commissioner’s approval.
