Vasai: An 84-year-old Vasai resident allegedly died by suicide by jumping in front of a moving local train at Naigaon railway station on Sept 28. In his purported suicide note, Gabriel Coutinho blamed physical and mental harassment by his Sham (45) and his associate Sagar , said police. In 2021, Gabriel transferred his house in the names of his two daughters and barred Sham from entering the premises. In March 2022, Vasai police registered a case against Sham for alleged unlawful entry after he entered the house and damaged household articles. On Sept 28, before taking the extreme step, Gabriel gave Rupa a bag containing the suicide note alleging that he was fed up with the harassment by Sham and Sagar. Bhayander railway police registered an abetment of suicide case against Sham and Sagar following a complaint by the deceased’s daughter, Rupa Chirayat. Rupa alleged that Sham had assaulted, abused and mentally harassed their father over petty issues for years. Rupa’s complaint stated that Sham later allegedly occupied the house with others’ help, prompting her to to take her parents and aunt to their native place. Gabriel later rented a house nearby, but Sham allegedly continued to harass him, deny him food, prevent him from leaving and assault him. A video purportedly showing Sham pushing an iron rod through a window to assault his father, who had locked himself inside, had also circulated on social media. Download the TOI App.
