NAVI MUMBAI: Vehicular traffic from Navi Mumbai towards Mumbai was disrupted for around 30 minutes after a hatchback caught fire while crossing the Vashi Creek Bridge on Friday at around 7.30pm. Vashi traffic police alerted the Vashi fire brigade, which reached the spot within 15 minutes. The fire was subsequently extinguished, and the Vashi fire brigade team returned to the station at around 8.30pm.
“At around 7.45pm, we received a call from one Rahul, whose full name is not known, informing us that a car had caught fire on the Mumbai-bound lane of the Vashi Creek Bridge,” said AV Sisode, the on-duty fireman at Vashi fire station. The Mumbai fire brigade team had also reached the spot as there was some confusion over the jurisdiction,” Sisode said. The driver escaped unhurt. He immediately pulled the car over to the roadside after noticing smoke emanating from the engine. However, the fire soon engulfed the entire vehicle, leaving it completely charred. The charred vehicle was later towed away by a crane, following which traffic movement returned to normal. “In the meantime, we also received a call from the Vashi traffic police and immediately rushed to the spot with a fire tender.
