Kochi : The police seized 61 LPG cylinders from vehicles parked on a vacant plot near Irati Parambu Junction on Chethyattukudy Beverage Road, east of Kottuvally village, and arrested a 58-year-old man in connection with the alleged unauthorised storage and sale of LPG.
The cylinders were allegedly being stored for sale without the required permission or licence, according to the police. The cylinders were found in an open mini truck and an autorickshaw, according to FIR. The police said the cylinders were stored without complying with prescribed safety standards and posed a danger to human life.
The police registered the case under provisions relating to negligent handling of combustible material and Essential Commodities Act provisions concerning unauthorised possession and sale of an essential commodity. The police have informed the gas companies concerned about the seizure. Further investigation is under way.
The accused, Jagalasan, was arrested on Wednesday and later released on station bail. The seizure followed a police patrol on Tuesday night.
