Villupuram: A 40-year-old man was arrested on Friday for murdering his six-year-old son by throwing him into a well after his wife denied him cash for consuming liquor at a village near Gingee in Villupuram district. Police said that K Selvaraj, a daily wage labourer from Nallan Pillai Pettral village, and his wife S Devi, 35, have four daughters aged between eight and 14 years and a six-year-old son. As the well was brimming with water due to recent rains, rescue personnel deployed pumps to drain the well before recovering Sanjay’s body three hours later.

As the quarrel spilt over into Friday morning, Selvaraj murdered his son, Sanjay , by throwing him into a farm well behind a govt primary health centre around 9am, said police. Villagers alerted the Sathyamangalam police, and a team arrived with fire and rescue services personnel from Keelpennathur. The body was sent to Gingee govt hospital for postmortem. Police registered a case and arrested Selvaraj. Probe is on.

Selvaraj allegedly picked up a quarrel with his wife on Thursday night and threatened to kill the children if she refused to give him cash to buy alcohol.
