Dindigul : A 68-year-old quack was arrested for treating patients without a medical qualification at a private hospital in Komberipatti near Vadamadurai in Dindigul district. Based on a complaint lodged by health officials, Vadamadurai police registered a case and arrested Anthonydas on Thursday.
She said the private hospital had been functioning in the locality for more than 20 years.
Joint director of health services Dr S Bharathi told TOI that the department recently received a complaint from a woman who had allegedly suffered complications following a botched abortion at the said hospital. “During the inspection, we also seized expired abortion-related drugs and other allopathic medicines from the premises,” Bharathi said. “We are going to issue a memo to his daughter in connection with this,” Bharathi added, saying that Anthonydas.
She suffered severe blood loss and was subsequently treated at Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital. Anthonydas was operating the hospital using the name of his daughter, who is a qualified medical practitioner. Based on the complaint, a team of health officials led by Bharathi inspected the hospital on Thursday and found that Anthonydas was providing allopathic treatment without having formally studied medicine.
