Kozhikode : An 11-month-old child from a family in Kalikavu was killed after a tourist van overturned and fell into a roadside depression at Maranchatty on the Kakkadampoyil-Karassery road around 1.30pm on Saturday. Thiruvambadi police said that the child was yet to be identified. The child was taken to a private hospital in Kozhikode, but could not be saved. Eighteen injured people, including the driver, have been admitted to hospital. The group was returning to Kalikavu after visiting Kakkadampoyil. The accident happened at a sharp bend near Maranchatty, shortly after Koombara, when the vehicle suddenly went out of control and overturned. Hearing the cries and commotion of passengers trapped inside the vehicle, residents and other motorists rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts. When they were unable to bring the passengers out, the Mukkam fire unit was alerted. Fire personnel reached the scene and, with the help of local residents, lifted the vehicle and rescued those trapped inside. Download the TOI App.
