Electricity minister C T R Nirmal Kumar on Saturday said the searches conducted by directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC) at properties linked to former minister K N Nehru were not an act of political vendetta.
Speaking to reporters in Madurai, he said no one had the authority to interfere with the DVAC’s functioning. The department will release details,” he said, rejecting allegations that the TVK govt’s action was politically motivated. Asked about statements by AIADMK and DMK leaders that the TVK govt would not last, Nirmal Kumar said they indicated that the two parties were together. He also said there was a possibility of the AIADMK, DMK and BJP forming an alliance for the next election. Regarding the omission of the Board of Trustees’ names from the invitation for the consecration ceremony of Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple, Nirmal Kumar said, “None of us will interfere in temple affairs, particularly those concerning the HR&CE department.
“The searches were routine and based on the evidence. No one can interfere with the DVAC. No one knows what is happening there. Even our review is limited to assessing the arrangements made for devotees. We will not repeat the mistake made by the previous govt in temple matters.”
