Chennai: A 52-year-old govt school principal was arrested under the Pocso Act for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old Class VI student at a govt school near Thiruporur on Sept 19. On Sept 19, she went to the primary school for such activities and was assigned to check the answer sheets of the younger students.
Police said students who moved to the higher secondary section sometimes visited the primary school to help with cleaning activities and assist younger students. Police said the headmaster took her to his room and sexually assaulted her. He was remanded in judicial custody and later suspended by school education department. After the girl later informed her parents, they contacted the Singappen Special Force helpline. Mamallapuram all-women police registered a case under the Pocso Act, arrested the headmaster and remanded him in judicial custody. He has since been placed under suspension.
The girl had previously studied at the primary school on the same campus.
