Chennai: More than 10,000 aspirants have signed an online petition urging the IIT council and Joint Admission Board (JAB) to allow them a third consecutive attempt in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) (advanced) 2027.
They said three attempts were allowed in JEE (main) while JEE (advanced) allows only two attempts.
Further, they pointed out that only 1.8 lakh of the 2.5 lakh candidates who qualified have been appearing for JEE (advanced) exam in recent years. Two attempts may not truly reflect a student’s capability,” the petition said. A third attempt helps reduce this gap and create a level-playing field,” aspirants said in the petition. It will not require any additional workload in conducting the exam or affect the quality, they said.
“JEE (advanced) is a high-pressure, single-day exam. Factors such as health issues, anxiety, or minor mistakes can significantly affect the performance. It tests deep conceptual clarity, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. “Not all students begin with the same level of awareness, guidance or resources. Many, especially from rural or underprivileged backgrounds, start serious preparation only after Class XII, leaving them at a disadvantage. Download the TOI App.
