Chennai: Three members of a family, a 10-year-old boy among them, died and three others suffered serious injuries after their share auto rammed a truck near Periyapalayam in the early hours of Sunday.

Police said Loganathan, 42, an auto driver, was at the wheel. His wife Poongodi, 39, daughter Dhanalakshmi, 10, mother-in-law Radha, 65, and his nephews Gokul, 10, and Prasanth, 15, were travelling in the vehicle. The family, from Kodungaiyur in Chennai, was travelling to Periyapalayam temple when the accident occurred near the MTC bus stop at Panpakkam.

The share auto hit a truck travelling ahead of it and overturned. Radha and Gokul died at the hospital While Poongodi died on the spot. The others were taken to Periyapalayam PHC and the govt hospital in Tiruvallur. Periyapalayam police sent the three bodies to the govt hospital in Tiruvallur for postmortem.
