The functionaries said the complaint of police brutality against a youth from the tribal community should be treated as serious, and the truth must come out. Since the allegations are against officers, meant to enforce the law, the probe must be transparent and independent, they said. The protest was organised by CPM Poonjar area committee. Party workers marched from Chennad junction to Erattupetta police station, where a protest meeting was held. CPM district secretariat member K Rajesh inaugurated it.
The allegations should be examined in detail and strict legal action should follow against anyone found guilty, they said. The party demanded that the investigation be handed to another officer and that influence or interference not be allowed.
