Kozhikode : CPM ’s former Ponnani MLA P Nandakumar courted controversy on Saturday after referring to Malappuram as a den of fundamentalists.

Nandakumar said that there was some peculiar situation prevailing in Malappuram adding that it was a den of fundamentalists. He said that it was the secular communist party that needs to progress against it, coordinating secular entities. Meanwhile, the Ponnani municipal committee of Youth League has filed a police complaint against Nandakumar. Youth League alleged that the remarks could create communal disharmony and damage Keralam’s atmosphere of religious harmony. Download the TOI App.
Earlier, SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan had sparked a controversy with a remark against Malappuram.
Nandakumar also said that the district committee meeting will examine how the organisational drawbacks need to be rectified, and how to carry out these political responsibilities. Nandakumar’s remarks came at CPM’s extended district committee meeting which saw the likes of leader of opposition Pinarayi Vijayan in attendance.
