Addressing the gathering held in connection with a CPM-led march to the Adoor police station, Udayabhanu said the police were behaving like a king who could not tell the accused from a witness. Kottayam : CPM state committee member K P Udayabhanu has courted controversy after stating at a protest meeting in Adoor that police in Keralam had ‘gone mad‘ and would be dealt with accordingly. He questioned the dignity of the force. He alleged that the police arrested innocent DYFI workers following a clash between Youth Congress and DYFI activists in Adoor. He further alleged that a group led by expelled Congress functionary Rahul Mamkootathil assaulted DYFI workers seated inside a police jeep, in full view of the police. Udayabhanu also warned that if the police continued with such a stance, ‘defence forces‘ would be formed in every ward to resist what he termed police excesses. The march, held alleging one-sided action by the Adoor police in the clash, was inaugurated by CPM district secretary Raju Abraham. Udayabhanu presided. Heavy police deployment was arranged. The march, which began at Parthasarathy Junction, was stopped by barricades on the one-way stretch below the municipality.
