Crackdown on Dissent: DMK Chief criticises BJP Over Youth Arrests

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Stalin said DMK would also provide legal support to arrested CJP members. Chennai: DMK president M K Stalin condemned the Union govt for its crackdown on youth activists protesting chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that BJP was attempting to muzzle young voices through “brute force through an authoritarian approach.

“DMK stands fully prepared to extend complete legal aid and administrative backing,’’ he said, expressing solidarity with detained CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das. In his social media post on Wednesday, Stalin warned that incarcerating dissenting youth will only backfire, catalysing nonpartisan ordinary citizens to take to the streets in defence of democratic rights.

“Thank you, M K Stalin Sir, for speaking out against the illegal arrest of Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das,” said Abhijeet Dipke in an X post. CJP leaders responded to Stalin’s post, thanking him for the support in arresting CJP functionaries.
