DMK president MK Stalin has requested President Droupadi Murmu to intervene in the electoral roll controversy.
In a memorandum dated Oct 26, Stalin alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls had resulted in the deletion of a large number of genuine voters in Tamil Nadu and accused the chief election commissioner of taking unilateral and unconstitutional decisions by overriding the views of the other two election commissioners. He also urged the President to refer to the Supreme Court, under Article 143, the question of the validity of the deletion of 97 lakh electors from Tamil Nadu’s rolls during the SIR exercise.
“The DMK president’s memorandum was sent by e-mail as an appointment from the President was not forthcoming for a DMK delegation till Wednesday,” said a source.
