Explosive materials seized from godown near Chinnalapatti; two booked
Dindigul: Dindigul district police raided a godown in Chinnalapatti on Monday and recovered 1,189kg of explosive materials hoarded illegally. The raid revealed that the property belongs to Sellathurai, also known as Savarimuthu, 64, a resident of South Street in Aariyanallur, according to police. Following a tip-off regarding the illegal hoarding of explosive substances, a police team headed by Chinnalapatti police inspector Sathya raided an asbestos-roofed godown situated within the JNS Bakery premises along the Munnilaikottai–Aariyanallur road. Police discovered that the warehouse was being used to hoard explosive ingredients and semi-finished products to manufacture paper crackers commonly used for funerals, temple festivals and wedding celebrations, without any valid licence or safety permissions. Acting on a complaint lodged by Jayalakshmi, village administrative officer of Munnilaikottai village, Chinnalapatti police registered a case against Vijayakumar and Sellathurai.
