An engineer with the Manamadurai municipality was caught red-handed by DVAC officials while he was accepting a bribe of Rs2 lakh from a contractor.
Road-laying work worth around Rs4 crore is being carried out at three locations within the Manamadurai municipal limits, according to officials. Sivaganga : An engineer with the Manamadurai municipality was caught red-handed by DVAC officials while he was accepting a bribe of Rs2 lakh from a contractor. Municipal engineer Pattu Raja allegedly demanded Rs4 lakh as a bribe from the contractor. The contractor subsequently approached the DVAC. Acting on the complaint, officials laid a trap and handed over Rs2 lakh in chemical-coated currency notes to the complainant to be given as the first instalment. DVAC officials, who were positioned nearby, caught Raja while he was receiving the money and arrested him. Driver Sethupathi, who allegedly facilitated the collection of the bribe, was also arrested. Following the arrests, a DVAC team led by DSP Dharmaramu conducted an inquiry at the Manamadurai municipal office. Officials also scrutinised documents, registers and other key files pertaining to the road contracts.
