Madurai : The postmortem report of 54-year-old Paramasivam of Mela Anuppanadi in Madurai, who died after being taken into police custody earlier this month, has revealed evidence of brain swelling and intracranial haemorrhage. However, doctors have deferred the final opinion on the cause of death pending chemical and histopathological examination reports.
The postmortem examination of Paramasivam, whose death has sparked allegations of custodial assault by his family, was conducted by a three-member medical board from the forensic medicine department of Government Rajaji Hospital on August 18 between 4pm and 5pm.
Medical experts said a final opinion on the cause of death can be offered only after the results of these tests are received. To determine the exact cause of death, samples from the stomach, intestines, liver, kidneys and other organs have been sent for chemical analysis. Tissue samples from the brain, heart, liver and kidneys have also been forwarded for histopathological examination.
