Thomas, who sustained serious injuries in the collision, was rushed to a nearby private hospital by local residents. However, she succumbed to her injuries. The four other occupants of the car were also admitted to a private hospital. The car was travelling from Pathanamthitta to Velankanni, while the KSRTC bus was proceeding from Kumily to Kottayam. The bus reportedly continued without stopping after the collision. It later veered off the road at a curve near Chottupara, following which passengers raised an alarm and forced the driver to stop.
