In Goripalayam, residents, students receives roasted without bus shelters

The construction of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose flyover in Goripalayam, which began in 2023, has affected the bus routes of several key services plying between Periyar bus terminus and MGR central bus stand in Mattuthavani, with some stops being dropped or rerouted.

“It has been around two years since the shelters were removed and buses rerouted,” she said, adding that remains of the older shelter were still visible among the debris under the Sellur arm. A senior corporation official said these stops were recently inspected, and work to set up proper shelters will be done soon. The bus stop at Sangeeth Plaza, near North Gate hotel going towards Mattuthavani, is used by students from American College and Meenakshi Government Arts College for Women. But without a proper shelter, they struggle to find shade while waiting for a bus. P Sheila, a passenger at the bus stand, carrying a young child with her, asked why there were still no shelters at these bus stops. “A final call on the position of the bus shelters has to take into account the changes in traffic that the flyover will bring. Once this work is done, the shelters will be put up,” the official added.
