COIMBATORE: The Chinnavedampatti Industrial Association (CIA) has urged the Coimbatore district administration to repair severely damaged roads in the area.
More than 630 industrial units affiliated to the CIA operate in the Chinnavedampatti–Udayampalayam–Saravanampatti region. In the petition, CIA president N Devakumar stated that important industrial clusters like the Jagannatha Industrial Estate and the Rainbow Industrial Estate are facing logistical challenges due to the deteriorating road conditions. As the city corporation is carrying out the underground sewerage scheme in the added areas that includes the Chinnavedampatti area, a truck carrying spare materials for the industries in the area got stuck last week due to damaged roads.

In a petition submitted to the district administration, minister V Sampath Kumar and Kavundampalayam MLA Kanimozhi, the association pointed out that many roads –including the main road from Athipalayam Pirivu to Kumaraguru College — are in a state of disrepair. “The damaged roads have made it difficult to transport machinery and spare parts manufactured by these industrial units, particularly during the monsoon season. Additionally, both workers and the public are facing challenges while commuting,” he stated. Devakumar pointed out that three major colleges and more than five schools are located in the area, contributing to high vehicle traffic. He urged the authorities to conduct an urgent inspection of the roads and prioritise repair work to ensure smooth operations in the industries and the safety of all commuters. Download the TOI App.
