Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan condemned the NCW workshop’s alleged treatment of women MLAs.
“Forcing Hindi at a national conclave and intimidating delegates from non-Hindi-speaking states strikes at the core of our constitutional compact,” he said. “Our founding fathers envisioned an India whose strength would come not from uniformity, but from unity of diversity – a union where different languages, cultures and identities enrich, rather than diminish, the national fabric,” Satheesan said. The remarks came two days after the Keralam delegation walked out of NCW workshop in Faridabad Tuesday, protesting exclusive use of Hindi and the lack of translation services.
Minister Bindu Krishna, who was part of the Keralam delegation along with cabinet colleague K A Thulasi, deputy speaker Shanimol Osman and five other MLAs, said they had expected meaningful discussions on lawmaking, implementation of legislation, and women’s representation but the event was poorly organised and focused on basic subjects. She also alleged that requests to include English in the proceedings were ignored. TNN
