Kochi : A 31-year-old undocumented Bangladesh national who escaped from Palarivattom police station on Wednesday night was still at large.
The accused Hadiullah Khan, a native of Morrelganj in Bagerhat district, escaped from police custody around 8.30pm. The FIR said the couple allowed him to stay at their house on Thursday from 2am to 4.30am, knowing that he had escaped police custody. Khan was the sixth accused in the case registered under sections 21 and 23(a) of Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.
Police said they have received information about the fugitive and he would be arrested soon. All six were from Morrelganj, and had entered India illegally and were staying in the rented building without passports, visas or other supporting documents, according to the police. The police were recording Khan’s fingerprints, and he allegedly entered the bathroom on the first floor of the station and escaped by jumping through a window. The case was registered against Shah Alam and his wife Reshma. The Bangladesh nationals were arrested based on confidential information that several of them were staying illegally on Savitha Road in Vennala. The six adults were informed about the alleged offence and arrested at the spot. Mobile phones found in their possession were seized and taken into custody after being recorded in the seizure mahazar. The accused was subsequently taken to Palarivattom police station.
He and five other undocumented Bangladesh nationals were arrested by the police on Wednesday. Meanwhile, police booked two individuals on Friday for allegedly assisting the escaped man.
