Kochi: An elderly couple were killed after their scooter collided with a private bus in Kothamangalam on Sunday morning.
The deceased are Jose Varghese, 66, of Urulanthanni, Kuttampuzha, and his wife Susan, 57. The accident occurred at Thundam Junction on Vadattupara Road around 10.30am, police said. In a separate accident, a 34-year-old man was killed and his six-year-old son injured after their two-wheeler was knocked down by a truck near Kuzhikkattukara Juma Masjid in Edathala on Saturday night.
FIR says that the bus driver was speeding and driving the vehicle recklessly. Rameesh of Fort Kochi died on the spot while his son Ridan suffered injuries to his head, leg and hand, according to the police. As per FIR, the bus named Appoos was heading towards Bhoothathankettu from Vadattupara when the accident occurred.
Though Varghese and Susan were rushed to a private hospital in Kothamangalam, doctors declared them dead, the police said. The bodies will be handed over to the kin after an autopsy, the police said. Kuttampuzha Police registered a case for rash driving and causing death by negligence.
