Kochi : The state water transport department (SWTD) will begin tourist services to Kadamakkudy and Fort Kochi using the solar cruise vessel Saurya 2 from Saturday onwards.
Tickets for this route are priced at Rs 200 per person. The four-hour journey navigates through nearly 12 island clusters, including Kothad and Pizhala, before arriving at the Kadamakkudy viewpoint. The ticket price is Rs 300 per person. Upon reaching Kadamakkudy, tourists can visit a local resort offering activities like kayaking and water sports for an additional Rs 100. SWTD has also introduced special fare tiers for younger passengers: free travel for children under five; those under 11, including school groups on educational trips, get half-price tickets.

“There will be a music system on the 30-passenger boat and we will soon introduce online booking as well,” said a senior SWTD official. “The influx of more tourists will unlock fresh opportunities for local enterprises, Kudumbashree units, small vendors and various stakeholders in the hospitality and tourism sectors,” said Kadamakkudy panchayat president M S Antony. The first service of the day, See Kochi, departs from the Ernakulam boat jetty at 11am daily. During the two-hour cruise, passengers will travel past Bolgatty, Vallarpadam, Vypeen and Fort Kochi before returning to Ernakulam at 1pm. The second service, See Kadamakkudy, sets sail at 3pm. Passengers can take in sunset views on the return trip, arriving back at the Ernakulam jetty by 7pm. Snacks are provided as part of the excursion. Download the TOI App.
Bookings will open on Friday, marking the department’s first dedicated tourist vessel service to the Kadamakkudy islands.
