Kochi : It is suspected that the tragic blaze at the historical Koder House in Fort Kochi on Tuesday night was caused by the flames that spread from the nearby heritage building.

Officials in the electrical inspectorate wing in Ernakulam said they suspect the fire in Koder House was allegedly caused by a short circuit in the air conditioner installed in the adjacent heritage structure. We will have to take a statement of the owner,” an officer said. “We have collected electrical items from the structure which is suspected to be the source of the blaze. It will be tested in our laboratory to know what led to the flames and if there were any faults in the electrical circuit. The short circuit will happen only if the electrical item is functioning. The purported video shows flames spreading from the nearby structure to the top floor of Koder House. The winds from the sea and soaring temperature reignited the fire multiple times the next day as well. The rooftop and top floor, made of wooden planks, were burnt down in the flames.

The latest video that surfaced on Saturday negates reports that the flames originated from Koder House, which was gutted in an over two-hour-long blaze. It was alleged that the flames originated on Tuesday on the top floor of the left side of Koder House, which shares a boundary with another heritage structure, which suffered minor damage.
