Following this, the court disposed of a plea seeking a direction to provide platforms, sidewalks and pathways on the existing roads as well as the roads proposed to be constructed under various schemes in Madurai city. . In the counter affidavit, corporation commissioner stated that the civic body had developed the streets around Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple under the smart city project and provided proper platforms for pedestrians. In all four Masi streets, roads were developed with public-friendly platforms. In respect of roads maintained by the corporation, pedestrian facilities were provided based on the requirement. There are some roads where the facilities are being provided in a phased manner. In addition, there is a proposal for providing a subway from the railway junction to Periyar bus stand. Pedestrian pathways are also being provided around the century-old fort near the Periyar bus stand complex. Further, all such projects are provided with differently-abled friendly facilities.
