Police have arrested a 50-year-old man on charges of sexually harassing a 10-year-old speech-impaired girl in Tirunelveli district.
Tirunelveli: Police have arrested a 50-year-old man on charges of sexually harassing a 10-year-old speech-impaired girl in Tirunelveli district. Police registered a case under sections 7&8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and launched an investigation. Police identified the accused as Manthiraraj. The survivor, a Class V student, was his neighbour. The girl’s parents are also speech-impaired. The girl’s mother, who witnessed the incident, intervened and rescued her. She lodged a complaint with Nanguneri police on the same day. After a preliminary probe ascertained that the girl was sexually harassed, police arrested Manthiraraj.
The girl went to provide water to the cow on Monday when Manthiraraj, who was under the influence of alcohol, allegedly harassed the girl, police said. He was remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.
