“To ensure the long-term success of the environmental drive, a joint effort by the corporation’s engineering, town planning, city health, and education departments is currently under execution,” corporation commissioner Gaurav Kumar said. Madurai: In a push toward environmental sustainability and city beautification, Madurai corporation has initiated a series of urban greening works across key locations. The civic body has established nursery and plantation setups at the Rajaji Park Higher Secondary School campus and the Tamukkam Road Officers’ Quarters campus to support the ongoing greenery expansion. As part of the initiative, major traffic arterial routes and roundabouts are receiving a decorative overhaul under a private participation scheme. Ornamental plants have been planted along the centre medians along Anna Nagar Road and KK Nagar Road. Beautification projects are also under way under the Natham flyover, focusing on compound wall and mural artwork near the northern and western entrances of Anna Maligai. Download the TOI App.
This includes continuous maintenance for 14 Amma canteens, the areas surrounding the Thiruparankundram Road flyover, Kalpalam and Netaji flyovers, and public toilet facilities opposite Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal. The corporation is using corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding to restore, repair, and maintan critical civic infrastructure. CSR funds will also be used to support the upkeep of the area around the East Tower of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, Meenakshi park, and riverside tree plantation drives along the banks of the Vaigai river near Vandiyur.
