Madurai: To raise voting awareness among youngsters, electoral literacy clubs (ELC) have been set up in 646 educational institutions across Madurai district.
Organised in alignment with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India , the meeting focused on evaluating and boosting the activities of ELCs established in 542 schools and 104 higher educational institutes in the district. The collector also announced that educational institutions demonstrating exceptional performance will be identified and rewarded by ECI. Dedicated institutional coordinators have been appointed and registered on the ECINet website. The collector instructed school headmasters and college principals to prioritise selecting students and completing their onboarding onto the ECINet portal. Institutions will regularly educate students on voter registration methods, the features of the ECINet portal, electronic voting machines (EVMs) and vote counting processes. Senior revenue and election officials, along with school headmasters, college principals, teacher coordinators and students, attended the meeting.
District collector Nishant Krishna presided over a district-level review meeting on ELCs at Madurai Medical College auditorium on Saturday.
