COIMBATORE: The Gomangalam police in Coimbatore district have arrested a man for extorting Rs 2 lakh from a 19-year-old youth and compelling him into marry an 18-year-old girl.
Arun Prasad came to know about the love affair of the youth and the girl, according to police. The arrested man has been identified as AVR Arun Prasath of Gomangalam near Pollachi. He cornered the victim and coerced him to marry the girl. Arun Prasad threatened the victim that if he refused to marry her, he would file a false complaint at all women police station to frame him under POCSO Act and also warned that he would kill him using hired henchmen. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim, police registered a case involving charges of abduction, extortion and criminal intimidation. He was remanded in judicial custody.
A police team tracked down and arrested Arun Prasad from Tirupur district on Wednesday.
To avoid legal trouble, the victim reportedly paid Rs 2 lakh to Arun Prasad. However, Arun Prasad, along with his accomplice Harakrishnan, abducted him, confined him to a house and forcibly married him to the girl on Aug 31 and took photographs of the event.
