Man killed, body dumped in tank near Tirumangalam; four arrested

Cleared/275 Words Dindigul/Madurai: A 38-year-old man, who was reported missing by his family, was murdered and his body dumped in a drinking water tank near Tirumangalam in Madurai district. Police arrested four people in connection with the crime. During the course of the inquiry, police questioned several residents of the village and found that four suspects from the same village had gone absconding ever since Sangili went missing. Subsequently, police arrested Bakkiya Selvam, Murugan and Muthu Pandi, all from Sembatti, and Rangasamy of Pudukottai. Upon interrogation, they confessed to the crime. Police found that Murugan was killed at Sembatti in Dindigul district, and his body was later transported and dumped in an unused drinking water tank at Uchapatti near Tirumangalam. Police recovered the decomposed body from the tank and sent it to Government Rajaji Hospital for postmortem examination.

A senior police officer told TOI that preliminary inquiries revealed that there were frequent disputes between the victim and Bakkiya Selvam.

The officer said the victim was lured by the accused on the pretext of having alcohol, and subsequently murdered by strangling and repeated beating inside the car.

Sangili Murugan , 38, a resident of Sembatti village in Dindigul district, went missing on September 10, according to police. His relatives lodged a missing complaint with the Sembatti police, following which a case was registered and an investigation launched.
