Man summoned for inquiry into minor daughter’s sexual abuse collapses, dies
Madurai : A 40-year-old man who was brought to a police station in Madurai for questioning following allegations of sexual abuse involving his minor daughter collapsed and died during questioning. Recently a 15-year-old Class X girl from Madurai city was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital after complaining of illness and persistent stomach pain, according to police.
A senior police officer told TOI that the minor reportedly hesitated to disclose the person behind her pregnancy. Her parents were summoned to the police station,” said the official. The official said the man had reportedly consumed a drink he had brought with him to the police station, which may have been mixed with toxic substances.
During examination, doctors found that she was seven months pregnant. Subsequently, hospital authorities informed the police. Personnel from the Town all-women police station registered a case under relevant sections of the Pocso Act and recorded the girl’s statement without naming the suspect. “As she was hesitant, police decided to interrogate her parents to find out the suspect. However, the exact cause of death can be determined only after the postmortem examination report is received. A case regarding his death has been registered with the Thilagar Thidal police.
DNA test would be done to confirm the offence, after which the case is likely to be closed as the charges abate due to the accused’s death, the official said. The Pocso case is also under investigation.
