SALEM/NAMAKKAL: Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Thursday inaugurated a new fire and rescue services station and district fire officer’s office in Salem and 14 residential quarters for fire service personnel in Tiruchengode in Namakkal district through videoconferencing from Chennai.
The Salem facility, constructed by Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation at Shevapet at Rs 6.08 crore, includes a 12,336 sq ft fire station on the ground and first floors. District fire officer’s office occupies 8,362 sq ft on the second floor. At Salappalayam in Tiruchengode, the 14 residential quarters were built by Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation at Rs 4.33 crore on a parcel of 24,552 sq ft land. There are two station officer units and 12 units for firemen.

The building has rooms for the station and transport officers, firefighter rest areas, a conference hall, storage space, a lift, generator, lightning protection, parking, fire extinguishers, drinking water and drainage facilities and a perimeter wall. Transport minister A Vijay Thamizhan Parthiban lit a ceremonial lamp and inspected fire vehicles, equipment and rescue tools. Namakkal district collector L Madubalan lit the ceremonial lamp.
