Property tax scam: No relief for ex-zonal chief’s husband
Madurai: Madras high court on Thursday dismissed the bail plea of Saravanan , husband of former corporation zonal chairperson Bhuvaneswari, in connection with the property tax scam in Madurai corporation.
The case pertains to large-scale irregularities in property tax assessments carried out in Madurai corporation limits between 2022 and 2024. An internal inquiry revealed that officials’ login credentials were misused to alter tax assessments of commercial establishments, including hospitals, lodges, marriage halls, companies and other buildings, resulting in substantial revenue loss to the corporation. Justice K Murali Shankar also dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Misa M Pandian, who is apprehending arrest in the property tax scam case. Pandian is the husband of former corporation zonal chairperson P Pandiselvi. Following the findings, a case was registered by central crime branch and later taken up by a special investigation team led by DIG (Madurai range), following the Madras high court’s direction.
