Kochi : Two West Bengal natives were arrested with four kg of ganja in Angamaly around 10.30am on Monday.
Angamaly excise inspector Vipin Das and his team arrested Habibur Rahman Mandal, 55, and Habibur Rahman, 37, both hailing from Murshidabad in West Bengal, from Angamaly-Angadikadavu Road. Also, Ernakulam rural police arrested West Bengal natives Arun Mandal, 28, and Chandranath Mandal, 23, with 1.25kg ganja from Muvattupuzha market area on Monday. Meanwhile, Kochi city police arrested Ayan King (19), of Kakkanad, Ernakulam, with 1.8kg of ganja near Container Road–Puthiyaroad Signal Junction during a search conducted as part of Operation Toofan.
The duo got off at Tirur railway station and hired an Uber taxi to avoid checks at Thrissur and Aluva railway stations, according to the officials. They were arrested while they were going to their room after getting off near Angamaly. Acting on a tip-off received by Kochi city police, the youth was apprehended by a Dansaf team led by narcotics cell assistant commissioner T D Sunil Kumar.
The team included assistant excise inspector (grade) Biju P K, Suresh Babu P N, preventive officer Shibu M A, preventive officer (grade) Jomon K U, civil excise officers Ajeesh Mohan and Noufal S, and civil excise officer-driver Sajeesh P B.
