Kochi: A 31-year-old man was arrested in Angamaly with 8kg of ganja on Saturday night, police said. The seizures also include around 120g of MDMA, 500g of heroin, 850g of hashish oil, 26g of opium, 51g of ketamine, five cannabis plants and around 300 ganja cigarettes. The police have also conducted around 770 anti-drug awareness classes. A 39-year-old man who allegedly attempted to escape after ramming his car into two police officers in Elamakkara was arrested with 32g of MDMA on Friday.
The accused, Joynal Abedin, from Murshidabad in West Bengal, was taken into custody by the rural district Dansaf team and Angamaly Police. He allegedly purchased the ganja in Odisha and transported it to Bengaluru before travelling by a tourist bus to Angamaly. He was arrested as part of Operation Toofan. The police suspect that the ganja was intended for sale among migrant workers. As part of Operation Toofan, the Ernakulam rural district police have so far seized around 240kg of ganja, including nearly 17kg of hybrid ganja. City police too have been making major drug seizures as part of the drive.
