Kottayam: Rebel Congress councillor Biju Mathews was elected vice-chairperson of Pala municipality in the district on Wednesday, securing 14 of 26 council votes. UDF candidate Sebastian J Panaykkal received 11 votes. Nagara Vikasana Munnani holds a majority in the 26-member council.
The choice of Mathews for the post is reported to have left Thaiparambil and Lisikutty dissatisfied, a factor believed to have contributed to Rajitha Prakash’s absence from the vote as well.
