Kochi: The high court has granted pre-arrest bail to a 20-year-old unmarried woman from Alappuzha in a case accusing her of throwing her newborn baby through the window of a hospital at Haripad.
A bench of Justice Kauser Edappagath allowed the accused’s pre-arrest bail petition and directed that she be released on bail in the event of her arrest upon execution of a bond of Rs 1 lakh with two solvent sureties.
The prosecution case was that on May 25, while she was admitted to the Taluk Headquarters Hospital, Haripad, she gave birth to a child. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Kochi | Silver Rate in Kochi | Bank Holidays in Kochi | Public Holidays in Kochi Stay updated with the latest Kochi news.
She was innocent and had been falsely implicated in the crime, according to the petitioner. In order to avoid the situation arising from the birth of the baby, as she was unmarried, she allegedly threw the baby through the window of the bathroom attached to the hospital room. However, the baby was rescued by the swift intervention of the hospital’s night-duty medical team. The prosecution opposed the petition, contending that her release on bail at this stage would affect the course of the investigation. However, the court observed that there was nothing on record to suggest that the alleged act was committed with an intention to cause the death of the child. Noting that the investigation was almost over and that custodial interrogation of the petitioner was not necessary, the court allowed the petition. Download the TOI App.
