Renowned Tamil scholar Solomon Pappaiah passed away at ninety years old.
He was 90. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2021 for his contribution to literature and education. Pappaiah had been undergoing treatment for about a week after his health deteriorated. A former Tamil professor at The American College, Madurai, Pappaiah became one of Tamil Nadu ’s best-known debate moderators, taking literary and social discussions to a wider television audience. He was also known as a writer, poet and public speaker and was closely associated with the promotion of Tamil language and literature.
