Malappuram : Samastha president Jifri Muthukoya Thangal has publicly expressed displeasure over the recent reorganisation of Kerala State Waqf Board.

He said that govt had not sought Samastha’s opinion regarding the reorganisation. Thangal also said that he was not aware that M P Mustafal Faizy, who was expelled by Samastha, had been included in the board. Thangal said there is no disagreement over selecting Mayin Haji as chairperson. “Since he is a person who has worked closely with Samastha from a young age, I’m confident that he will fulfil the legitimate matters related to Samastha,” Thangal said. Thangal also said that he had advised Haji that he must act impartially as board chairperson. Samastha does not intervene in advance when the board is reconstituted or when people are appointed, he said. Thangal also said that the organisation expresses its opinion only when asked who should be included.

There will be criteria for including people from various organisations or sections in the waqf board. Samastha need not respond to that, he told reporters on Wednesday.
