T‘puram: A daylight theft was reported at Kurakkanni near Varkala on Wednesday, with burglars allegedly stealing around 10 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 3,500 from a house.
The incident occurred around 10.30am at the residence of Baby Shaila, 56. Varkala Police have launched a probe.
The thief entered the house through the rear door when no one was present and stole the valuables, according to the complaint. The police said, Shaila’s two children are abroad, while another son works at a resort in Varkala. The suspect allegedly boarded an autorickshaw near Kurakkanni Jn and travelled towards Varkala after the theft, according to preliminary information.
She usually visits a relative’s house after her son leaves for work in the morning. She had locked the rear door before leaving. On returning, she found the kitchen-side door open and subsequently noticed that the gold ornaments and cash were missing. She then alerted the police. The police have also collected CCTV footage from the area.
