Police said Priyadarshini had come to the house of her relative Bjiu at Kesavanputhenthurai near Eathamozhi along with her two children. The deceased was identified as Ali Kiyana Salma, daughter of Katti Rajan and Priyadarshini of Raman Puthur near Nagercoil. Katti Rajan is employed abroad. The couple has a nine-year-old son, Cabin Vijosh. A huge wave suddenly swept her and the two children into the sea. On seeing them in distress, Biju rushed to their rescue, but he too was dragged into the water by the waves. However, the four-year-old girl could not be traced.
