Madurai: The state on Wednesday informed Madras high court that financial assistance arrears were paid to a pregnant woman who was transfused with HIV infected blood at a government hospital in Sattur in Virudhunagar district in 2018. The court had directed the state to provide monthly financial assistance of Rs7,500 to the woman. The woman gave birth to a girl child in January 2019 and the baby tested HIV negative.

A division bench of Justice C V Karthikeyan and Justice R Sakthivel took note of the submissions and disposed of a batch of petitions seeking a direction to the state to provide compensation to the woman. The court further directed the state to construct a house for the woman and provide a two-wheeler to her. The woman tested HIV positive after the blood of a donor was given to her at Sattur government hospital. Download the TOI App.
Earlier, the court had directed the state to pay a compensation of Rs25 lakh and provide her government employment.
