Thrissur : Workers at Harrison Malayalam estate at Palappilly launched a strike on Tuesday following the reported death by suicide of a woman staffer alleging workplace harassment.
The body of watcher Chembuchira Manjusha, 41, was found hanging on an electric tower. The note said the superiors started harassing her after she took a break of 15 minutes while on duty a few days ago, with the permission of another superior official. A suicide note reportedly written by her named some of her superiors as responsible for her suicide. The note, addressed to the state police chief and Kochi manager of Harrison Malayalam, stated that she was ending her life as she could no longer endure severe mental harassment from her superiors. The letter explicitly names certain officials at the estate, accusing them of constantly harassing and pressurising her at the workplace. Manjusha reportedly was facing health issues and was posted at the office premises for the last couple of years. One of the three accused officials had sent some offensive message to her after this. She had threatened to file a complaint against the offensive message. Subsequently, the controversial officers posted her for field duty alone, despite her health issues. Different organisations have planned protest marches to the company on Wednesday, demanding strict action against the accused officials.
