Thrissur : Protest mounted against Harrison Malayalam plantation company at Palappilly on Wednesday following the reported death by suicide of a woman watcher alleging workplace harassment.
DYFI activists stormed the company office, demanding action against the officials named in the suicide note of the deceased staffer Chembuchira Manjusha, 41. They were demanding that a suicide abetment charge be slapped against the company officials who allegedly harassed the woman. INTUC, CITU, AITUC and BMS members took out a joint march to the company, demanding that the officials allegedly responsible for the suicide be dismissed from the company and arrested. A meeting of representatives of all trade unions has been convened to chalk out the future course of agitation. Police had erected barricades in front of the company, anticipating the possibility of protests. However, DYFI activists entered the company premises by breaking the barricade and smashed the office window panes. INTUC is reportedly planning to picket in front of the company on Thursday. Manjusha’s body was found hanging on an electric tower on Tuesday.
